Last night’s red carpet brought the zzz’s for the most part. Our cousin blog recapped the fabulous Golden Globes jewelry (that was unfortunately few and far between). The gowns seemed to come in only 5 variations – nude, nude + sparkles, blue, red, eggplant, and the fit of many gowns left a lot to be desired. Fortunately, this was only the beginning of awards seasons. Fortunately there were a few standout stars (Kate Hudson in McQueen, Lucy Liu in Carolina Herrera, host Tina Fey in L’Wren Scott). And most fortunately the handbags saved the day. From Heidi Klum’s chic foldover clutch to dazzling miniaudieres by the dozen, the starlets didn’t disappoint in the evening bag department. Below, our favorites Golden Globes purses!
5. Kate Beckinsale
Kate’s Judith Leiber clutch shone in solid gold folds accented by a thick band of pearlescent and crystal cabochons. The vintage detailing nicely complemented the structured ruffles of her pale pink Gucci dress and the tony gold of her Neil Lane necklace.
4. Naomi Watts
Naomi’s arm candy was sheer perfection. But even more than boyfriend/babydaddy Liev Schreiber, we couldn’t stop staring at Naomi’s Ferragamo clutch. The structure and slim black lacquered box was mirrored around its edges and perfectly reflected Naomi’s elegant burgundy Zac Posen gown. She coordinated with rich diamond and ruby Lorraine Schwartz earrings.
3. Miranda Kerr
Another lady in red (really, one of like 20), the supermodel knocked it out of the park. She Jolie-d hard in a thigh-high slitted chiffon gown by Zuhair Murad. We love that she contrasted the gown’s pure sexiness with a sweet, pale satin clutch. No i.d. on the designer as of yet, but it reminds us of this Christian Louboutin Mini Loubi Lula satin clutch. Whoever it’s by, Miranda makes it multitask as a wind guard on that daring, gauzy dress.
2. Julianne Moore
Ms. Moore charmed as usual with her gracious acceptance of her Golden Globe for Game Change. The stunning redhead wore black and white custom Tom Ford gown with Tom Ford shoes and a fabulous Tom Ford miniaudiere. The purse is sensual in black chevron with a bold gold stripe and border to set off her equally geometric gown. She added amazing Bulgari earrings and a Bulgari Serpenti bracelet to match.
1. Jessica Alba
Jessica was one of the night’s best dressed for us. She stood out in a sea of red by shining in bright peach Oscar de la Renta. She paired classic Veronica Lake hair with a pop of coral lipstick and Harry Winston Diamonds with a capital D. ($5.8 million worth!) Her whole look was over the top, including a bright burnt orange Roger Vivier feather clutch. Be still our hearts!
